B.C. reports COVID-19 data from May 15 to 21

In the past week (May 15 to 21) there were 1,358 new COVID-19 cases reported in B.C., bringing the overall total to 370,559 since the pandemic began.

Of the new cases, 295 were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region (including Richmond), 465 in the Fraser Health region, 231 in the Island Health region, 281 in the Interior Health region, and 86 in the Northern Health region.

As of today, there are 473 people currently hospitalized with COVID-19, 42 of whom are in critical care.

There were 282 new hospital admissions in the past week (May 15 to 21). Of those, 55 were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 129 in the Fraser Health region, 40 in the Island Health region, 43 in the Interior Health region, and 15 in the Northern Health region. According to the B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) report, these numbers are expected to increase as data become more complete.

The number of COVID-19 admissions in the previous week (May 8 to 14) increased to 388 from the 334 originally reported last week.

The 30-day all-cause mortality report, which includes COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 related deaths occurring within 30 days from a positive lab result, indicates there were 42 deaths between May 15 and 21. 

Of those who died, 13 lived in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 14 in the Fraser Health region, seven in the Island Health region, eight in the Interior Health region, and none in the Northern Health region. According to the B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) report, these numbers are expected to increase as data become more complete.

The number of COVID-19 deaths in the previous week (May 8 to 14) increased to 86 from the 59 originally reported last week. The previous week’s deaths (May 1 to 7) also increased by two to 86.

Locally, the latest data from the BCCDC indicates that there were 57 cases in Richmond last week (May 15 to 21), down by one from 58 the previous week (May 8 to 14).
