A variety of arts and cultural activities are taking place in Steveston this weekend.

Big Print steamrolling into Steveston on Labour Day weekend

The public is invited to roll into Steveston to watch local Japanese Canadian and Indigenous artists create large artworks using construction equipment.
Presented by Creative Cultural Collaborations Society (C3 Society), a series of 1.2 metre by 2.4 metre (four feet by eight feet) prints will be pulled from the pavement, using an industrial-size construction steamroller as the printing press.
Taking place in a parking lot on Imperial Landing between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday (weather permitting), seven different prints will be inked and printed, not once, but three times each. The team of professional and novice printmakers will make this both a learning process and an exciting collaborative experience.
The prints will be designed and cut by artists Mariko Ando, Dona Nabata, Atheana Picha, Kinichi Shigeno, Debra Sparrow, Cyler Sparrow-Point/Isaiah Sparrow, and Richard Tetrault/Gerald Pedros. The final prints will be displayed at 100–4300 Bayview St., along with a selection of prints pulled from previous projects.
This project will build on the past success of Big Print Chinatown 2016.
There are a number of additional arts and cultural activities happening over the long weekend providing an even greater incentive to visit Steveston this weekend:
• Grand Prix of Art: The 12th annual international outdoor painting competition begins Saturday (Sept. 3) at 10
a.m. with over 100 artists racing against the clock to complete their artworks within a three-hour time limit.

• Vintage Fair: Between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday (Sept. 4), go back in time and find some vintage
treasures in Town Square Park beside the Steveston Museum and Post Office. Find out more at

• Steveston Farmers and Artisans Market: Drop by the Easthope parking lot across from Steveston Community
Centre between 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Sunday (Sept. 4). Browse close to 50 vendor stalls and pick up
fresh local produce, unique prepared food items, and local crafts.
