How many times have you had to rely on a buddy for power when your device runs low or dash to an inconvenient wall outlet? The Richmond Public Library is now teaming up with a local firm, Power Buddy, to offer portable cell phone charges at its main Brighouse branch.

Library spokesperson Stephanie Vokey says, “Library customers looking to charge their mobile devices are no longer dependent on a wall outlet but can rent a portable power bank and even leave the library with it.”

Those working on a project will no longer have to stop, find a plug-in, and wait for enough charge to finish what they started. Now, with a Power Buddy, patrons can access the extra power they need at no cost for the first hour of charging.

By signing up for the app and offering a credit card number, users can go to the kiosk on the main floor of the library to sign out a charging device for their phones, tablets or other electronic devices. Power Buddy is available for both iOS and Android phones.

“The app, the kiosk and the chargers are all being managed for the library by Power Buddy,” says Vokey. “The first 60 minutes are free and after that the rent is $1 per hour.”

The portable cell chargers can be returned to the kiosk at the Brighouse branch or to one of the other kiosks located in Richmond. To find the location of other local cell charger rental kiosks, stations or to download the app, go to getpowerbuddy.com/app and get ready for extra charging power as handy as your local library.
