Due to the evolving COVID-19 situation, white Styrofoam is not being accepted at the Richmond Recycling Depot (5555 Lynas Lane).

Residents are asked to hold these materials at home until they can be recycled again, as large block Styrofoam is banned from being put in the garbage by Metro Vancouver.

Coloured foam is still accepted at the recycling depot at this time.

Regular curbside and centralized garbage and recycling collection in Richmond is continuing without service interruption. The city has implemented several new measures that support health and safety for waste collection crews, city employees, and the community.

All visitors must maintain a two-metre (six foot) distance from others, including staff. Only eight to 10 cars are permitted in the recycling depot at any given time.

Depot staff will still be available to assist in unloading heavy or awkward items, but residents must remain in their vehicles while these items are being unloaded.

Credit cards must be used to pay for purchases such as garbage disposal vouchers and extra garbage tags. Cash is not being accepted at this time.

Signage reminds visitors that if they are feeling ill, they should not enter. Visitors are also reminded to wash their hands before and after dropping off recycling.

Wherever possible, residents are encouraged to delay visiting the depot until the COVID-19 situation is resolved. The city is also requesting that residents hold onto heavy or bulky items for the time being.

Some materials are not recyclable, and should be placed in bags that are sealed and then put in the garbage to prevent health safety risks. These include used tissues, disposable wipes, disposable gloves and face masks.

If someone in a household is sick, residents are asked to double bag all waste before putting it into the garbage.
