Over the Easter long weekend, provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry asks all British Columbians to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 by avoiding non-essential travel, staying home and connecting with family and friends virtually rather than in-person.

Henry says the next few weeks are critical to the management of this pandemic. Continuing to follow public health guidelines is more important than ever—staying home will help flatten the curve.

This means the long weekend—normally a time for family get-togethers and celebration—must be handled differently this year. Henry has provided some additional information and suggestions about how to mark this time of year safely.

Many faith-based organizations are connecting virtually, keeping in touch while staying safe. Guidelines for faith-based gatherings are available here.

Avoid non-essential travel, including visiting secondary homes or vacation properties in other communities.

While provincial and federal parks are closed, British Columbians can continue to get outside for fresh air and exercise while keeping a distance of at least two metres from others outside their household.

Support elderly or vulnerable neighbours by offering help collecting groceries or prescriptions.

Most charities are not currently picking up goods from their donation bins, so keep any donations you might have if you are spring cleaning.

Take time to protect your home from floods and wildfire by cleaning gutters and drains and trim trees and other vegetation.
