On August 14, Vancouver’s create community will come together for Frocktails, a handmade fashion party celebrating the launch of Sewjo, a new mobile platform for hobby sewists, cosplayers, and creative DIYers.

Frocktails invites guests to dress in handmade outfits, walk the runway, and connect with fellow makers over drinks, music, and community vibes — all hosted at OpenRoad Hyundai in Richmond as part of their Road to 25 initiative.

The party also marks the official launch of Sewjo, a mobile app created by local entrepreneur and sustainability advocate Irina McKenzie (founder of FABCYCLE). Built for the 30+ million hobby sewists and markers across North America, Sewjo helps users organize their fabrics, patterns, and materials — and feel more connected to their craft.

“Millions of people are sewing at home — making their own clothes, costumes, and art — but they’re stuck stitching together their own systems with Pinterest boards, spreadsheets, and tools that weren’t even made for them,” saysKcKenzie. “Sewjo is a new kind of platform — visual, intuitive, and built around how real makers actually work.”

The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the OpenRoad Hyundai in Richmond. From draft artists to slow fashion sewists, the event is expected to draw a wide range of Vancouver’s creative community.
